Well, my second week at the travel guide Revista Del Sol in Samara has started.
This week I will try to continue with our new projects. Especially filling the agenda and making sure we have enough adds for our new classifieds section.
First thing i did though this morning was checking on our network sites. It is processing. Slow but it is which is the most important thing. And it is just my second week.

This weekend I went on a trip to discover the coast north of Samara.
We went all the way up to El Coco.
The beaches are great (but the roads are terrible).
The bad roads (and maybe the off-season) had as side effect that there were almost no other people at the beaches so we could enjoy some quiet moments at beautiful beaches.

however, coming back to Samara already felt like coming home. After just 4 weeks I consider Samara as my new home. It is amazing how fast that goes here.

Well, I will tell you more about this weeks projects when I figure out what exactly I need to do.

Going out there

Another day at the travel guide Revista Del Sol.
When working on a new project, everything needs to be considered.
And everything needs to be done by you (or the partners you work with).

I like the challenge and I think I can learn a lot from it. Thinking about what needs to be done and when and in what way is challenging but also a great experience.
At Revista DelSol I have the opportunity I need to come up with ideas, make decisions and 'do'!

Today we are working on the classifieds section. Questions, like how to reach the people, where to promote the idea and all the things that come with it are asked.
And you learn a lot from trying. I like that no one here is afraid of that. We all try and see how it works out. If it does.. Great! If it doesn't.. we need to figure out why and change the tactic.
The first week is almost over and the picture is getting clearer.
Now I need to work on my Spanish to fully be able to go out there and do all the things that need to be done.

I will keep you posted.

The Agenda

Today has been filled with building up networks and researching the competition.
There are a lot of different magazines out there but they are all different.
Revista Del Sol is focusing one area which gives us the advantage of getting more and more detailed information.
My next task will be to research the market here. What is there to do? When does it take place? Where is it located? and so on.
This is is great challenge and the perfect opportunity to get to know the area better.
I got to know Samara a little after 3 weeks but I know there is much more on a second view and I am glad that I will discover it.
Of course, everything I will find will be on the homepage (www.revistadelsol).
Filling the agenda with events is a huge job but I am confident that I will manage as it is so easy to enjoy Costa Rica.

Tomorrow we will continue to think about improvements and any other changes necessary for the next issue.
I will keep you posted!

What I do and where I am

Welcome!

I am happy you visit my new blog.

I just started working at Revista Del Sol in Samara, Costa Rica and with this blog I will keep you up to date with everything that is happening here.

I am a second year college student in Amsterdam, the Netherlands studying Leisure Management. For people who have never heard of it, it is a bachelor study with management as the major and with a focus on the leisure field. With this I mean tourism, events, project management, media, hospitality, sports and much more. My program includes a 5 months internship which I chose to do at Revista Del Sol.

With some research online, some luck and the privilege of meeting the right people I got in contact with Tyrone Jackson, the owner of the magazine. At the moment he is busy with preparing the next issues which will be publish in October this year so he was looking for assistance. I started working here to support him with the many tasks that are involved in creating this magazine. As it is a personal and small-sized company I think I will get the opportunity to learn a lot for my future career and make my first experiences in the work field of leisure.

There are many different tasks involved but as it is only my first day I will tell you about them when I know more about it.

On this site I will write about my work at Revista Del Sol. I hope you will follow and let me know what you think. If you have any questions feel free to write me.

The company it self provides the magazine Del Sol which includes any kind of information about the areas of Samara Beach, Carrillo and Nosara and its surrounding beaches including Playa Guiones and Playa Pelada.

I will, of course, inform you when the website gets updated but feel free to visit it any time and leave comments. (www.revistadelsol.com)

The magazine is available for free in this area and serves as a great guide for any kind of activities visitors or locals have planed.

I have discovered that all surfers I met here use the tide chart which Del Sol provides to make sure they get to the beach on time for the best waves.

I personally was very happy with the article about surfing rules and tip. It provided me and all other people who have never stepped on a surfboard before with the basic rules you need to follow when riding the waves. http://revistadelsol.com/PageDisplay.aspx?Hname=26

There is much more to read and discover in the magazine but I will end my first entry here.

There is a lot of work to do.

See you soon!
