getting ready for publishing
We are finalizing everything; getting the advertising ready, creating a photo gallery online, revising the articles and translating them, calling clients and potential clients to make sure their changes of ads are correct, finishing our new classifieds section, selecting a photo from the photo contest for the next cover and much more.
It is fun and a lot of work at the same time because next to all these extra tasks we need to keep up with our daily tasks. The networks need to be updated, the clients need to be served and so on.
In not even one month high season will begin and all businesses will return to regular business which means the Revista can fill its agenda with many parties, activities and events.

next month
This has a couple of reasons. First of all, it is the slowest month in the year. Almost no visitors are in Samara and many restaurants and hotel are closed for a couple of weeks.
This leads to a decrease of businesses who are interested in advertising with us. Therefore we decided to see this extra time as our opportunity to improve the next issue.
Now we have the time to make the long awaited map of Nosara and Samara, we can finish our new classifieds section, we can make sure all articles are ready and of high quality and we can take some more time for the layout.
We are very excited how all the new projects are going to work out.
Me and my co-workers are busy taking pictures of Nosara, Samara and Carrillo to create an online photo gallery.
Furthermore I have been trying to gather information which might be interesting for visitors. My findings will be posted online and in the new issue of Del Sol.
The new publishing date is 1 November 2009
Until then I will keep you updated!
keep checking!

some changes (in and outside the magazine)
Tyrone had finished some of the remodeling of the office and I like it. Now it looks like a office of a magazine and you are able to see lots of issues that have been published right on the wall.
The office looks friendly and professional.
Right in the morning a client stopped by to talk about his book cover and how it should be designed, changed etc.
This is part of Graphic Jam SA ( www.graphicjamsa.com ), the graphic departement of Revista Del Sol, covering advertisement, posters, flyers, t-shirts and more.
As we are finishing the next issue of Revista Del Sol which will be published in only 2 weeks, we hired another girl to support us with the advertisement sections of the magazine.
She will talk to potential clients and make sure the magazine has enough but not too many ads in it.
For example, a lady from a local B&B came by today to discuss her advertisement in the paper, how big it should be, what it should look like and what it should contain.
Concerning the hiring process of a graphic designer I am making progress. I got a couple of applications and they all sound really great. I hope someone can start soon. We want to change the homepage and we need support and knowledge to do this.
I will keep you posted on the developments.
Don't forget to check the agenda on www.revistadelsol.com

work work work
I have been posting adds for a week now and I really hoped I would find someone by the end of this week. We really could need some support, some help for me, but especially someone how does the graphic design. I am, unfortunately, not talented enough.
This and last week I have been updating our local businesses list ( http://www.revistadelsol.com/mainCategory.aspx ) It is a lot of work but definitely worth it.
And as soon as the list is complete I want the businesses to advertise with us. The magazine is a really great product, the only problem about it is, that no one knows about it. But he, that is what I am here for.A lot of talking and changing and researching needs to be done but I am very confident that by the time I will leave beautiful Costa Rica we will be getting close.
Today is independence day in Costa Rica.
Everyone is celebrating and having a good time.
This morning the students made a great parade through the cities and towns all over Costa Rica, played music, danced and had a good time.
It is great to see and I hope there is still something going on when I am done working today.

checking out samara
I want to create a list of all businesses that are located in Samara Beach.
First of all for our directory on the homepage but also for me. The more you know the more you have to choose from.
The list will make it possible for people who want to visit Samara (and the other beaches of course but this list has to wait to be created a week or two) to get to know the town before they come here and make plans based on the information they can get on our homepage.
I also want to create a review section where visitors who have been here can share their experiences and opinions about certain bars, hotels, schools etc.
I'll get back to work now.

weekend
We are working on our homepage. We are improving different features and links to make it easier for visitors to find information.
Our job postings have shown first results. We got some applications and on Monday I will need to look through them and see if we can actually hire someone, but I am positive that we will find someone.
This month Costa Rica will celebrate its Independence Day and they start decorating the city already. It looks great and I love it.
I will give you an more detailed update next week.
Have a great weekend!

This week I will try to continue with our new projects. Especially filling the agenda and making sure we have enough adds for our new classifieds section.
First thing i did though this morning was checking on our network sites. It is processing. Slow but it is which is the most important thing. And it is just my second week.
This weekend I went on a trip to discover the coast north of Samara.
We went all the way up to El Coco.
The beaches are great (but the roads are terrible).
The bad roads (and maybe the off-season) had as side effect that there were almost no other people at the beaches so we could enjoy some quiet moments at beautiful beaches.
however, coming back to Samara already felt like coming home. After just 4 weeks I consider Samara as my new home. It is amazing how fast that goes here.
Well, I will tell you more about this weeks projects when I figure out what exactly I need to do.

Going out there
When working on a new project, everything needs to be considered.
And everything needs to be done by you (or the partners you work with).
I like the challenge and I think I can learn a lot from it. Thinking about what needs to be done and when and in what way is challenging but also a great experience.
At Revista DelSol I have the opportunity I need to come up with ideas, make decisions and 'do'!
Today we are working on the classifieds section. Questions, like how to reach the people, where to promote the idea and all the things that come with it are asked.
And you learn a lot from trying. I like that no one here is afraid of that. We all try and see how it works out. If it does.. Great! If it doesn't.. we need to figure out why and change the tactic.
The first week is almost over and the picture is getting clearer.
Now I need to work on my Spanish to fully be able to go out there and do all the things that need to be done.
I will keep you posted.

The Agenda
There are a lot of different magazines out there but they are all different.
Revista Del Sol is focusing one area which gives us the advantage of getting more and more detailed information.
My next task will be to research the market here. What is there to do? When does it take place? Where is it located? and so on.
This is is great challenge and the perfect opportunity to get to know the area better.
I got to know Samara a little after 3 weeks but I know there is much more on a second view and I am glad that I will discover it.
Of course, everything I will find will be on the homepage (www.revistadelsol).
Filling the agenda with events is a huge job but I am confident that I will manage as it is so easy to enjoy Costa Rica.
Tomorrow we will continue to think about improvements and any other changes necessary for the next issue.
I will keep you posted!

What I do and where I am
Welcome!
I am happy you visit my new blog.
I just started working at Revista Del Sol in
I am a second year college student in
With some research online, some luck and the privilege of meeting the right people I got in contact with Tyrone Jackson, the owner of the magazine. At the moment he is busy with preparing the next issues which will be publish in October this year so he was looking for assistance. I started working here to support him with the many tasks that are involved in creating this magazine. As it is a personal and small-sized company I think I will get the opportunity to learn a lot for my future career and make my first experiences in the work field of leisure.
There are many different tasks involved but as it is only my first day I will tell you about them when I know more about it.
On this site I will write about my work at Revista Del Sol. I hope you will follow and let me know what you think. If you have any questions feel free to write me.
The company it self provides the magazine Del Sol which includes any kind of information about the areas of
I will, of course, inform you when the website gets updated but feel free to visit it any time and leave comments. (www.revistadelsol.com)
The magazine is available for free in this area and serves as a great guide for any kind of activities visitors or locals have planed.
I have discovered that all surfers I met here use the tide chart which Del Sol provides to make sure they get to the beach on time for the best waves.
I personally was very happy with the article about surfing rules and tip. It provided me and all other people who have never stepped on a surfboard before with the basic rules you need to follow when riding the waves. http://revistadelsol.com/PageDisplay.aspx?Hname=26
There is much more to read and discover in the magazine but I will end my first entry here.
There is a lot of work to do.
See you soon!
